Musicologist Dr. David Fligg was Project Consultant for the duration of Performing the Jewish Archive (2014-18). His research specialism is the life and music of Gideon Klein, whose critical biography, Letter from Gideon, published by P3K in Prague, and launched by the Jewish Museum there, in December 2019 to mark Klein's centenary. The English version, Don't Forget About Me: The Short Life of Gideon Klein, Composer and Pianist, will be published on 18 November 2022 by Toccata Press (distributed by Boydell & Brewer). David's chapter on Klein appears in the 'Routledge Handbook to Music under German Occupation'. He was the narrator for the UK premiere of Klein's melodrama Topol (The Poplar Tree), at the Wigmore Hall's 'Music on the Brink of Destruction' concert in January 2017, subsequently broadcast of BBC Radio 3. David's theatrical presentation Gideon Klein - Portrait of a Composer, was premiered in Madison (Wisconsin) in 2016, and received performances in the UK, Czech Republic and Germany.
David is Honorary Research Fellow at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music, where he was previously a lecturer in academic studies. He is Visiting Professor at the School of Arts & Media, University of Chester, and a researcher affiliated to the Centre for Jewish Studies (University of Leeds).
With Lisa Peschel and Zdenka Kachlova, he co-curated the Gideon Klein centenary festival 'Gido's Coming Home!' in the Czech Republic, 2019-20.
