Gideon Klein’s Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello was written in the Terezín Ghetto in August 1944. It was less than 10 days before the composer, one of the most prominent artistic voices of Terezín would be deported to Auschwitz. The work has a melancholy interiority and profound maturity, indicative of the composer’s personality. Klein was one of the most beloved performers and personalities in the ghetto, and was a regular pianist for almost all major productions. He was murdered in Fürstengrube labour camp on the same day that Auschwitz was liberated. This performance features Benjamin Adler (Violin I), Charlotte Fetherston (Viola) and Joseph Eisinger (Cello) and lasts approximately 13 minutes 40 seconds.
